Malaria
Uganda is 95% malaria endemic with 5% being epidemic prone and malaria remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Uganda especially among pregnant women and children.
According to the 2014-2015 Malaria Indicator Survey, malaria prevalence among children 0 – 59 months in East Central Uganda is 36% compared to the national average of 19%.
Despite this high malaria burden in East Central Uganda, long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs) coverage stands low at 67% against the national average of 79%. LLINs when used properly are effective in malaria prevention efforts.
